LANSING – State Representative Robert Jones (D-Kalamazoo) has been named Chair of the House Committee on Commerce for the 95th Legislature. Jones was also named to the Tax Policy Committee, Intergovernmental and Regional Affairs Committee, and the Senior Health, Security and Retirement Committee.
"It is an absolute honor to be named Chair of the Commerce Committee," said Jones, who served as vice-chair of the committee last session. "We face a number of challenges here in Michigan, and the Commerce Committee will play a crucial role in crafting effective policies that will get our economy back on track. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to create the change our state needs."
In addition to serving on the Commerce Committee, Jones was also a member of the Tax and Health Policy committees, and Chair of the Senior Health, Security and Retirement Committee during the 94th Legislature.
Jones has been a steadfast supporter of increasing economic development and creating good-paying jobs for workers in Southwest Michigan and across the state. He is also committed to improving Michigan's business climate to attract employers in emerging fields such as renewable energy and life sciences to our state.
"It is critical that we stimulate economic development," Jones said. "We can provide lasting jobs for our residents by creating a global and dynamic environment for business and jobs to grow and thrive in Michigan."
