KALAMAZOO – State Representative Robert Jones (D-Kalamazoo) today held a Senior Summit at Senior Services Inc. in Kalamazoo to bring together experts and advocates to talk with seniors about issues important to them.
"I'm pleased to hold this event to help our seniors get the information they need to make informed decisions that will help them make the most of their golden years," said Jones, who is chair of the House Senior Health, Security and Retirement Committee. "Experts from local agencies and advocacy groups were able to come together in one place to share their knowledge with our residents. I hope that those who attended went home with useful and valuable information."
Jones invited guest speakers from the Office of Services to the Aging, the Area Agency on Aging, Senior Services, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department, and the State Office of Long Term Care to attend the Senior Summit. Topics discussed include access to prescription drugs, transportation, Medicare and Medicaid, elder abuse, mental health for seniors, the State Office of Long Term Care and more.
"As chair of the House Senior Health, Security and Retirement Committee, it is my top priority to ensure the safety and well-being of our seniors," Jones said. "Through events like the Senior Summit and my work in the Michigan House, I will continue to fight on behalf of our seniors for lower prescription drug prices, higher standards for long-term care, and overall better treatment for our parents and grandparents who have given so much."
